East Coast Youth Musician Competition and Wind Band Concert

About the Programme This event is sponsored by Lloyd Dowson, Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors, Bridlington. Winning finalists in each class, 11and under, 14 and under and 19 and under will receive a substantial cash award donated by the sponsors. In addition trophies donated by the Friends of East Yorkshire Youth Orchestra will be presented. This is a great opportunity to hear and support these East Coast’s young musicians as they compete for converted prize of East Coast Youth Musician of 2009.

Bob Mitchell Head of East Yorkshire County School Music Service. The afternoon will include a concert by the East Riding Schools Music Services Senior Wind Band. These talented young musicians will be demonstrating the high standard of musicianship as they play a range of music embracing classical, swing and jazz.

The Castleford Salvation Army Band and Songsters. “Come Together Musical” with the augmented Churches Together Choir.

About the Festival Concert This concert has something for everyone. It opens with one of the top UK Salvation Army Bands supported by the Songsters. The current band membership consists of 26 players aged from 16 to 78. The members a drawn from all walks of life, and 10 of the current members are products of the Young People's band. The band performs a variety of music including the classics, popular music, swing music and the more traditional march. There are approximately 30 members of the Castleford songsters with a growing number of younger members. The singing is often accompanied by drama, solo items, dance, instrumental and audio visual elements. Castleford Songsters have performed in dozens of locations across the UK, but maintains its primary aim to communicate the Christian message.
“Come Together” is an outstanding musical written and composed by the American Composers Jimmy and Carol Owen. The initial tour of this musical in the US and UK was lead by the Holywood Actor Pat Boone and was widely acclaimed. Many of the songs have found their way into modern hymnals and gospel music collections. The musical challenges people to “Come Together” in a common purpose to make the Christian Message relevant to today’s society. This musical has been revived for this performance with special and personal permission of the composers. Conducted by their musical director Dr Anthony Clarke an augmented Churches Together Choir bring a new dynamic to tonight's performance. |
