Heats Saturday 6th November Sewerby Methodist Church Sewerby, Bridlington East Yorkshire Finals Saturday 13th November, Christ Church, Quay Road, Bridlington, East Yorkshire
The East Coast Musician of the Year 2010 Competition is designed to engage and encourage young people in music making. It offers each entrant the opportunity to demonstrate their talents and training in a friendly, but competitive environment, which promotes participation and excellence. The competition embraces all styles of music from the traditional classical repertoire to jazz and pop. Singers, instrumentalists, percussionists and composers are all welcomed to participate.
Age classificationIt is recognised that to some extent musical ability is related to age, although not in every case. The organisers have therefore decided that the competition this year will be segregated into four distinct age groups.
The 11 and under age group, The 14 and under age group, The 18 and under age group and An open Class for those 19 and over.
To qualify for the 11 and underclass, entrants must be 11 or under (school year 6/7 and under) as of the 31st December 2010.
To qualify for the 14 and under class, entrants must be 14 or under (schools year 9/10 or under) as of the 31st December 2010.
To qualify for the 18 and under class, entrants must be 18 or under by 31st December 2010.
A new open class has been introduced for those “19 and over” There are no age restrictions for this class. As well as the 19 and over, the open class will be suitable for younger musicians who are at specialists’ musical training schools or colleges.
The ScopeWithin each age group entrants may choose to perform in a musical style of their choice e.g. classical, light classical, popular, jazz etc. Within these traditions they can offer the instrument of their choice. The range will include, but not necessarily limited to: voice, piano, keyboard, organ, guitar, strings, brass, woodwind, and percussion. If they so wish candidates can perform their own composition. This would give GCSE, A level and degree level students a chance to perform their work in the public forum should they wish.
